Description of the attraction

In the early 90s, thanks to the famous dancer, Honored Artist of Russia Valery Mikhailovsky, a unique ballet troupe, the only one in the world, appeared in the city on the Neva - the St. Petersburg Men's Ballet.

The creative team of the Men's Ballet aroused great interest among the public. The revolution of Russian ballet - that is how the troupe of critics was called. And they were absolutely right. For the first time in the history of world choreography in the ballet troupe there were exclusively representatives of the stronger sex, who stood on pointe shoes and performed the female parts of classical ballet in a highly professional manner. The Male Ballet has a significant advantage over other choreographic collectives - the dancers perform equally brilliantly the most difficult male parts, requiring a certain strength and endurance, and the female ones. Ballet experts argue that the troupe has a huge success with the public due to its wit and depth, lightness and fundamentalness, professionalism and innovation of both dancers and directors.

Much has been written about the creative team of the Men's Ballet and is being written in the media - magazines, newspapers. The troupe has about 300 positive reviews from critics from Russia, the CIS countries, and abroad. The dancers and the creator of the Men's Ballet were repeatedly published in "The New York times", "Dance magazine". Thanks to such publications, residents of Japan, USA, Spain, Finland, France, South Africa, Greece, Israel, South Korea learned about the ballet. The troupe of the theater is dedicated to several films and programs shot for viewers in Australia, America, and European countries.

Mikhailovsky's troupe has represented Russia in various international festivals. The dancers have performed on some of the world's finest venues such as New York's Lincoln Center. The troupe of the Mikhailovsky St. Petersburg Men's Ballet successfully gives tours both abroad and in Russia - in the cities of Siberia, the Urals, the Far East, and the Volga region.

Valery Mikhailovsky, the founder of the Men's Ballet and artistic director of the troupe, graduated from the Kiev Choreographic School in 1971. For six years he was a soloist at the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater, where he danced the first parts in Giselle, Anna Karenina, Swan Lake, Don Quixote . Mikhailovsky won public recognition thanks to his refined technique and his vision of the images of the classical repertoire.

After another 6 years, Mikhailovsky was noticed and appreciated by Boris Eifman, who is the creator of not only ballet theater, but also his own style in art, harmoniously combining classics and modern choreography.

From 1977 to 1991, Valery Mikhailovsky was a soloist of the Eifman Theater and the first performer of the leading roles in The Idiot (Prince Myshkin), Crazy Day (Count Almaviva), Twelfth Night (Malvolio), The Master and Margarita (Woland), "Teresa Raken" (Camille), "Boomeranga" (Mecca Knife), "Song Interrupted" (Victor Haara), in chamber productions "Comedians", "Cognition", "The Artist".

Valery Mikhailovsky's name is inscribed in the Ballet Encyclopedia.

Mikhailovsky left the Eifman ballet collective in 1992 and almost immediately created his own collective. His troupe includes brilliant performers who are able to dance the most complex male parts in classical and modern productions, but at the same time are able to convey the essence of a woman's nature with humor and delicate taste. With the troupe of the Men's Ballet, he made his debut as a choreographer, staging the play "In Image and Likeness" (music by P. Gabriel). The troupe first introduced the audience to him in the same 1992.

Valery Mikhailovsky has a unique experience as one of the very few ballet dancers who performed parts in all choreographic styles, from classical productions of works of Russian and foreign drama to choreography by the masters of our time Mai Murdmaa, Maurice Bejart, Igor Chernyshov, Boris Eifman.
