A fairy tale city, a dream city, a pearl by the sea - Odessa has many nicknames and names, but none of them conveys the entire unique atmosphere of this Black Sea city. The sea is the main and inimitable value of Odessa, its pride and glory, its balm for the soul and joy for the heart. A walk along any of the embankments of Odessa can restore lost strength, restore clarity of thoughts and sobriety. This is what Odessans say about their hometown, who are always ready to share their feelings with guests and friends.

On Primorsky Boulevard

The most famous embankment in Odessa has always been a boulevard. It was called New and City, Nikolaevsky and Feldman Boulevard. In 1945, it was renamed again and since then, under the name of Primorsky, it serves as the city's visiting card and its front facade.

The buildings are located only on one side of the boulevard, while the other is a steep slope descending to the port of Odessa. The majestic Potemkin Staircase leads to its passenger terminal, which Odessans will recognize in any photos and paintings:

  • The Potemkin Staircase was built in 1837-1841 and was called amazing by A. Green and J. Verne, M. Twain and A. N. Ostrovsky.
  • The staircase consists of 10 flights and 192 steps, its height is 27 meters, and its length is 142 meters.
  • The width of the base of the Potemkin Stairs is 21.6 meters and it is located on the sidewalk of Primorskaya Street.

For more than two centuries, the embankment of Odessa has been known as an archaeological site: ancient burials and the remains of a Greek settlement have been carefully preserved here, covered with a glass dome.

In the center of Primorsky Boulevard, at the corner with Ekaterininskaya Street on Richelieu Square, the famous monument to Duke is erected.

Near the beach of Longeron and the Big Fountain

In 2013, the grand opening of a new embankment in Odessa with a complex of fountains took place on the Longeron beach. Now parades and filming of new television projects take place here. A playground with attractions is open for kids on the comfortable Black Sea coast.

Tram stop "16th station of the Big Fountain" is a classic Odessa with an embankment and marble lions, a fountain and shady plane trees. Popular restaurants "Zolotoy Bereg" and "Veranda", which have become Odessa legends, operate here, and you can get to the Black Sea coast, just like decades ago, by tram route N18, making its way through the lush boulevard foliage.
