The name of one of the world's largest rivers comes from the Evenk word "ionessi", which means "big water". Siberians respectfully call it Yenisei-father, and the total length of the waterway is 5550 kilometers. There are many cities on the Yenisei, the largest of which is Krasnoyarsk. The Great River is girdled here by six bridges, and the embankment of Krasnoyarsk has been landscaped on its left bank.
In memory of the revolutionary
The embankment in Krasnoyarsk is called Dubrovinsky street. This hero of the civil war and an active participant in the struggle for the formation of Soviet power in Siberia was in 1917 the mayor of Krasnoyarsk. Dubrovinsky Street on the banks of the Yenisei is pedestrianized and you can get here from the city center in a few minutes.
Before the revolution, the embankment was not comfortable and served only as a berth for cargo and passenger ships. The disembarkation of passengers and the acceptance and unloading of goods were carried out using wooden ramps. The modern landscaped area of the embankment stretches from the city Park of Culture to the confluence of the Kachi River into the Yenisei, which is called "arrow" by the people of Krasnoyarsk.
For fans of local history
The main tourist attraction of the embankment in Krasnoyarsk is the local regional museum of local lore. It was founded in 1889 and today is one of the most significant in the country. The exposition of the museum has been repeatedly noted with commemorative awards. The museum became the winner of competitions and was recognized as the best among the regional ones in Russia.
The building was built in the Art Nouveau style and stylized as an ancient Greek temple. Among the most valuable exhibits of the museum on the embankment of Krasnoyarsk:
- Autographs of Napoleon Bonaparte and Grigory Rasputin.
- Epistolary heritage of the Decembrists who served their exile in these parts.
- A complete mammoth skeleton and the only stegosaurus skeleton in the country.
- V. I. Surikov's manuscripts.
A branch of the Krasnoyarsk Museum of Local Lore - the steamer "Saint Nicholas", installed on the spit of the Yenisei and Kacha. He left the shipyard in 1886 and then belonged to the industrialist I. M. Sibiryakov. The steamer was the record holder of its time - it developed the highest speed among ships sailing along the Yenisei. It was on "St. Nicholas" that Tsarevich Nicholas, who later became the last Russian emperor, made a trip in 1891.
