The third most populous city in Russia is located on both banks of the Ob River, the source of which is in Altai at the confluence of the Biya and Katun rivers. Reaching the capital of Siberia, the Ob turns into a full-flowing river, and its inhabitants consider the embankment of Novosibirsk, which stretches for several kilometers, to be the decoration of the city.
Urban origin
Due to the considerable length of the embankment, the townspeople are accustomed to conventionally dividing it into several parts. The Novosibirsk residents call their favorite place for walks to be the City Principle Park, located in the central part of the embankment. The name of the park was given by the old railway bridge across the Ob, a fragment of which has been preserved since the city was founded in 1893.
The history of Novosibirsk is connected with this bridge, and only thanks to it the city changed its status from a provincial to one of the largest in the country. It was here that the famous Trans-Siberian Railway passed, the decision on the construction of which was made by Emperor Alexander III in 1891. The monument to the Tsar was erected in 2012 on the embankment of Novosibirsk. Its author is the People's Artist of Russia Salavat Shcherbakov. The total height of the monument is 13 meters.
Opposite the "Urban Principle" park, a floating light and musical fountain works on the water surface in summer.
On weekends
The embankment of Novosibirsk is very popular with its residents on weekends and holidays:
- To the left of the road bridge across the Ob, on its bank, there is an amusement park "A by the River", the main attraction of which is called the all-season Ferris wheel. The height of the attraction is 35 meters and, among other booths, there is one wedding booth. Newlyweds arrange photo shoots in it at a bird's eye view.
- From the River Station of Novosibirsk, walking excursions on motor ships along the Ob are organized.
- Numerous cafes along the waterfront offer traditional Siberian cuisine.
- Novosibirsk residents spend the summer season on the city beach, where changing cabins are equipped and you can spend a free day under the rays of the generous sun.
- Victory Day celebrations usually culminate in fireworks on the embankment, where the entire city gathers that evening.
The easiest way to get to the Novosibirsk embankment is by city metro trains. The desired stop is called "River Station".
