Historians-heraldists are surprised to consider the coat of arms of Tver, a large Russian city, since its image is adorned with a not quite familiar symbol - the golden throne. Much more often in such heraldic signs there are images of representatives of the animal and plant world, attributes of secular and religious power.

Description of elements and palette

Despite the fact that the heraldic symbol of Tver adorns such a utilitarian object, even if it belongs to the royal expensive furniture, the city's coat of arms looks very worthy. A rich palette of colors has been used, which includes the most popular in world heraldry, gold and scarlet. The third color used for detailing, green, is considered less popular. But it perfectly complements and sets off the nobility of the scarlet and the shine of gold. The following elements are found in the description of the heraldic sign of Tver:

  • French shield;
  • the royal throne made of gold;
  • emerald pillow repeating the shape of the throne;
  • jeweled crown adorned with emeralds.

The image of the modern coat of arms was approved by the decision of the City Duma of Tver in May 1999, but the drawing is identical to the first official symbol of the city, in force since 1780.

Symbols of elements of the coat of arms

The main element of the heraldic symbol of this Russian city is the precious crown. She acts as a symbol of the Tver land in general, and a witness to the political role of the Tver principality. Also, the royal attire is a vivid reminder that the first to call himself tsar was the prince of Tver.

The rest of the details depicted on the coat of arms are just an entourage corresponding to the crown. The royal throne acts as a stand, a soft pillow is also designed to emphasize the respect for the precious headdress.

From the history of the coat of arms

In October 1780, the first official Tver coat of arms was approved. Then a new project appeared in 1859, it obeyed the rules that were developed by B. Kene. In particular, another crown was depicted, located above the shield, and the shield itself was surrounded by ears of corn entwined with the Andreevskaya ribbon. In history, it has remained an unapproved project. In another project of 1882, the royal headdress acquired the features of the famous Monomakh hat.

An attempt to introduce the coat of arms was also made during the years of Soviet power, for example, in 1966 there was even a competition for the best image of the heraldic symbol of Kalinin, as the city was called then. In 1999, the historical coat of arms took its rightful place in the political life of modern Tver.
