Historians-heraldists are surprised to consider the coat of arms of Tver, a large Russian city, since its image is adorned with a not quite familiar symbol - the golden throne. Much more often in such heraldic signs there are images of representatives of the animal and plant world, attributes of secular and religious power.

In October 1780, the first official Tver coat of arms was approved. Then a new project appeared in 1859, it obeyed the rules that were developed by B. Kene. In particular, another crown was depicted, located above the shield, and the shield itself was surrounded by ears of corn entwined with the Andreevskaya ribbon. In history, it has remained an unapproved project. In another project of 1882, the royal headdress acquired the features of the famous Monomakh hat.
An attempt to introduce the coat of arms was also made during the years of Soviet power, for example, in 1966 there was even a competition for the best image of the heraldic symbol of Kalinin, as the city was called then. In 1999, the historical coat of arms took its rightful place in the political life of modern Tver.
