The last revision of the Novosibirsk coat of arms was approved in April 2008, the previous one four years earlier. True, the changes made were not so significant. Therefore, we can say that in this form the main symbol of the city has existed since 1993. The sketch has specific authors - these are Sergey Morzhakov, Grigory Kuzhelev, Valery Smirnov, all of them are members of the Union of Designers of Russia.

The traditional rectangular so-called French shield was chosen as the basis for the coat of arms. It is divided into two parts by a horizontal line, which symbolizes the famous Trans-Siberian Railway. Without this important transport artery, the normal existence and development of the city would have been impossible.
Another line crosses the field of the shield diagonally, it is wide wavy. At first glance, it is clear that this is the Ob, the main river of the city. In addition to the water flow, on the shield you can see the bridge across it. The river and hydraulic structures also play an important role in the economic development of Novosibirsk.
Sables, bows and arrows, rather, correlate with history, are symbols of the main occupations of the indigenous people, the inhabitants of these places. Scientists claim that these elements were present on the historical coat of arms of Siberia, therefore, they are drawn in strict heraldic traditions.
