A world record holder, the Gelendzhik embankment stretches from Tonkoy to Tolstoy cape, framing the bay, for as much as 14 kilometers. This achievement has not yet been able to surpass any city in the world, and therefore Gelendzhik deservedly landed in the Guinness Book of Records.
You can start a walk along the most beautiful seaside embankment from Tolstoy Cape, where bus route N1 departs from the center, or from Tonky, which is connected to the city by bus route N5.
In memory of the poet
The Pitsunda pine alley, running parallel to the pedestrian embankment of Gelendzhik, originates near the monument to Lermontov. He arrived in the city in 1837 on his way to exile in the Caucasus. The monument is erected on a pink marble pedestal decorated with a facsimile of the poet's signature. This part of the embankment is called Lermontovsky Boulevard. It is visible from afar thanks to the snow-white openwork arch.
In the area of Lermontovsky Boulevard, there are many restaurants serving traditional Russian and Caucasian dishes. Restaurants of Armenian and Kabardian cuisine are especially popular with guests.
A little about everything
Comfortable beaches stretch along the entire embankment of Gelendzhik, on which, at the height of the summer season, literally, there is nowhere for an apple to fall. Pebble beaches are concentrated in the area of Tolstoy Cape, and sandy alluvial beaches are equipped in the central part of the embankment of Gelendzhik Bay. Admission to any of them is free, even if the resting place belongs to a boarding house or sanatorium. You will have to pay only for the rent of sun loungers and umbrellas.
For active vacationers, a variety of entertainment is organized:
- The beaches offer banana rides, jet skis and parasailing.
- Not far from the monument to Lermontov, there is a pier for sea vessels organizing boat trips and excursions.
- Here you can also rent a motor boat or a small yacht, and fans of scuba diving can use the services of a diving center.
On the embankment of Gelendzhik, there are offices of many travel companies, which sell excursions and tours to the surrounding attractions.
