Description of the attraction
The cable car is one of the attractions and a symbol of comfort in the resort town of Svetlogorsk. The city is located on high coastal hills, which is why the slopes to the sea here are quite steep, despite the fact that they are well equipped.
In summer, a cable car operates in the area of the Svetlogorsk-2 station, and an elevator operates in the area of the central descent. The whole city is buried in greenery, so the descent by the cable car and the elevator can seem like an unforgettable walk through the botanical garden, where both heat-loving southern plants and more northern conifers grow. In any case, all holidaymakers are very happy with the cable car, especially elderly people or people with health problems, who find it burdensome to climb the mountain.
Before the war, a funicular operated in Raushen (now Svetlogorsk) in the summer season. The passenger cable car was laid in the mid-1970s, and put into operation in 1983. It still connects the beach with the upper terrace near the Svetlogorsk-2 station. But time played a role, the funicular, elevator and cable car fell into disrepair.
In April 2012, the Governor of the Kaliningrad Region N. Tsukanov arrived in the city of Svetlogorsk on a working visit. Examining the promenade, he also drew attention to the funicular and the elevator, which needed repairs. N. Tsukanov expressed his readiness to provide financial support in the repair of the facility, including the cable car, so that it meets all the necessary modern requirements. In June 2014, the only ropeway in the Kaliningrad region was opened after reconstruction. The length of the road in one direction is 175 m (in both directions - 350 m). Number of double cabins - 20 pcs. Each booth is designed for a weight of up to 160 kg.
The cable car is pleasing to the eye with its small yellow cabins, which move in a circle non-stop from morning to evening.
