Poti lighthouse, located on the Black Sea coast in the port city of Poti, is the tallest and the only one of its kind on the coast of Georgia.
The lighthouse was erected back in 1862. The author of this unique project was a British engineer, whose name has been lost in history and remains a mystery to this day. The Poti lighthouse was delivered to Georgia by ship.
Recently, the lighthouse has undergone a major restoration, and now it looks like new. At first glance, you cannot say that the lighthouse in the port city of Poti is 150 years old. The lighthouse was reconstructed due to its poor condition, there was a great threat of collapse of the object.
The total height of the lighthouse is 38 meters. Poti lighthouse has become one of the popular points of tourist routes and one of the main architectural attractions of the city. On the ground floor of the building there is a small, but at the same time very interesting museum of the history of Georgian sailors, which contains a large number of amazing items and artifacts related to navigation. Among other things, the museum collection includes paintings, ship models, maps of the world, etc.
The main feature of the lighthouse in the port city of Poti is not only its age, but also its quality characteristics. The lighthouse is designed in two colors - red and white. During the day, the lighthouse does not work, however, in the evening and at night, a huge lantern, smoothly turning, brightly illuminates with its lights either the red or the white sides. The signal lights for the lighthouse were manufactured in England.
The way to the top of the Poti lighthouse lies along a circular staircase going up. An amazing view of the entire city and the sea opens from the Poti lighthouse.
