Description of the attraction
The Baron Bliss Lighthouse is located in Belize City. The construction started working in 1885. Its height is 16 m, the tower is painted in traditional white and red colors.
The lighthouse got its name in honor of one of the greatest benefactors of Belize - Baron Bliss, who, as you know, never set foot on the shores of the colony, but was impressed by the people of this country and their hospitality. He was a sailor and fisherman, traveled the world aboard his yacht "Sea King", and on March 9, 1926, Baron Bliss died. According to the will left, he was to be buried in a granite mausoleum, fenced with an iron fence, near the sea. There must have been a lighthouse nearby. This building was built in memory of the baron.
In addition to its main purpose - regulation of ship and boat traffic, the lighthouse is also used for advertising purposes. He is featured on one of the most popular Belikin spirits called "The Lighthouse lager". The manufacturer has placed the image of the lighthouse on boards, cup holders, cups, mugs and other merchandise throughout the country of Belize.
Baron Bliss Lighthouse is one of the recognizable and popular tourist attractions in Belize.
