Anyone who knows at least a little the history of the Great Patriotic War and the role of this Russian region instantly understands what elements should decorate the coat of arms of the Volgograd region. Naturally, the main official symbol will have images associated with war monuments and other historical artifacts.
Description of the coat of arms of the region
There are two versions of the heraldic symbol of the Volgograd region - small and ceremonial. The small version is a shield (by the way, in a traditional French form), scarlet in color. In the field of the shield, the central place is occupied by the stylized image of the main monument of Volgograd, installed on the Mamayev Kurgan.
Below this central element are alternating stripes of silver and azure colors, with the azure stripes and silver, located in the center, of the same width, the silver stripes that take place at the edges are narrower.
The ceremonial version of the region's heraldic symbol contains, in addition to the French shield, the following elements:
- framed by emerald laurel branches;
- golden ears of wheat;
- a scarlet ribbon with a gold inscription, the name of the region;
- a gold five-pointed star between the ends of the laurel branches;
- windbreak, stylized buds of a steppe tulip, cornflowers painted in the colors of the Russian flag above the shield.
In any color photo, it is noticeable that some of the elements of the coat of arms and the background of the shield are painted in scarlet color. It was chosen not only because it is one of the most popular flowers in heraldry. Its heraldic meaning is known - it is a symbol of courage, heroism, courage.
It is clear that the battle for Stalingrad, as the city was called then, became decisive during the Second World War. It was after the victory at Stalingrad that Soviet troops began to advance along the entire front line, winning one victory after another. This is symbolically reflected on the coat of arms of the Volgograd region through the color scheme, the image of the silver figure of the Mother - the Motherland. The laurel wreath, as a symbol of the winners, has been known since the times of Ancient Greece; it is also associated with victory on the region's coat of arms.
Wheat ears remind of the importance of the agricultural sector in the modern economy of the region. Steppe tulips and cornflowers were chosen to decorate the heraldic symbol, since their colors coincide with the colors of the state flag of the Russian Federation.
