Heraldic symbols of cities or regions of the Russian Federation can evoke different associations. Some of them are strict, serious, have images of formidable predators, birds or mammals. Others, such as the coat of arms of Sochi, evoke only positive, sunny emotions. This is achieved through the selection of colors and shades for the background of the shield and the symbol elements. The second important point is the choice of the elements themselves and their compositional placement.

The heraldic symbol of the city just demonstrates the stylized images of the main natural attractions of Sochi. The coat of arms of the resort has a traditional form, called in French heraldry. The shield is divided into four fields, painted (diagonally) in silver and scarlet colors.
Each of the fields has stylized images reflecting the geographic location, natural resources of the region, and good climatic conditions. Anyone, even a child, can recognize the following natural objects:
- three azure arcs on a silver background, a symbolic image of mountain peaks;
- a golden palm tree in a scarlet field, associated with lush tropical vegetation;
- an azure wave in a silver field, which can be easily correlated with the waves of the Black Sea;
- golden sun with rays on a scarlet background, a kind of reminder of the chic climatic conditions of the resort.
In addition, in the center of the shield of the heraldic symbol, there is another, small, rectangular shield painted in azure color. This beautiful background depicts: in the upper part - a stylized image of a silver bowl, from which drops of the same color flow down, in the lower part - a scarlet flame.

The stylized image of mountain peaks is an artistic embodiment of real natural objects (mountains Chugush, Achishkho, Aibga). The mountain peaks covered with eternal glaciers are famous for their ski resort Krasnaya Polyana, where not only ordinary tourists, but also presidents rest.
