Modern heraldic symbols of individual cities of the Russian Federation are based on historical seals and emblems. Some of them, such as the coat of arms of Sergiev Posad, completely copy the symbol of the city when it was still part of the Moscow province.
Description of the coat of arms of the city
The authors of the sketch, choosing the shape for the shield, relied on the traditions of Russian heraldic science. Accordingly, the French shape was chosen, having rounded lower corners and a sharpness in the lower part of the shield, in the center.
For the background of the shield, an azure color was chosen, it symbolizes stability, purity of thoughts, actions, literally demonstrates the blue peaceful sky over the city. On the shield, the authors placed several important elements directly related to the history of Sergiev Posad: part of the battlement wall; the visible tower with the dome of the church; golden beards (a type of cold weapon). Each of these elements can tell a lot to the one devoted to the secrets of the history of the city and the surrounding territories.
From the history of the symbol
In March 1883, the heraldic symbol of one of the cities in the Moscow province, Sergiev Posad, was approved. In the highest decree approving the new symbol, there was a description of the main elements and colors that have survived to this day.
True, there were some differences, for example, in the upper free ("free") part of the coat of arms the heraldic symbol of the Moscow province could be placed in order to emphasize the administrative-territorial affiliation of Sergiev Posad.
The second difference is a more complex compositional structure. In addition to the French-shaped shield itself, there were additional elements in the form of a tower crown crowning the composition and a symbolic wreath of golden, ripe ears of corn, framed by the Andreevskaya ribbon. The use of a historical symbol is interpreted by scientists in the field of heraldry as the continuity of generations, loyalty to the chosen path, the preservation of glorious traditions and the memory of the heroic past of the settlement and its inhabitants.
Precious palette
The heraldic symbol of Sergiev Posad contains several colors, all of which are actively used in world heraldry. The shield itself is azure, the fortress wall is silver in color with an azure outline, forming a brickwork. In the center of the wall, closed gates, black with silver plates and locks, are visible.
The tower of a Christian church is depicted in the same silver color. The second precious shade, gold, is also used in the composition. This color shows the dome and the cross, as well as the reeds.
