Description of the attraction
Zapresic is a small town located near Zagreb. It is the second largest settlement in Zagreb County after the town of Velika Gorica. The population of Zapresic is just over 50 thousand people.
Zapresic is located 13 kilometers west of the capital. The border with Slovenia is located 25 kilometers west of Zapresic. The city is located on a plain, in the valley of the Sava River, which is located to the north (at a distance of about two kilometers).
Zapresic is surrounded by two more rivers from the east and west (Sutla and Krapina), which are tributaries of the Sava. Despite the small area and not too large population for the city, several industrial enterprises have been built in the city.
Zapresic itself consists of six historic castles and mansions, known as the "Path of the Duca". All mansions and castles are included in the UNESCO cultural heritage conservation program. The mansions of famous Croatian families have survived here: Luznich, Laducha, Ošić, as well as the palaces of Janusevich, Yakovely and the village of Novi Dvorov.
Novi Dvorov is also known as the residence of Josip Jelačić, a famous Croatian politician. Novi Dvorov is located not far from Zapresic, where the grave of Jelacic and his family castle, which was built in 1611, and in 1934 passed to the state, have been preserved.
In Zapresic there is the house-museum of Matija Skureni, which was opened in 1984. Skureni is a famous Croatian artist. The Skureni House-Museum is located in one of the former granaries of Novi Dvor, in fact, it is an art gallery. Since 1991, exhibitions of various Croatian artists have been actively held here, such as Franjo Ferencak, Ivan Lovrencic, Drago Gras, Davor Vukovic, Kresimir Trumbetas and others.
Also in Zapresic there is a library included in the Association of Zagreb City Libraries, it has more than five thousand members, and its fund is about 80 thousand volumes. The library is located in the Luzhnich castle.
In addition, there is a unique ornithological reserve "Sava" with the most beautiful lake Zayarki, located to the south of Zapresic. The territory of the reserve is mainly covered with forests and dense undersized vegetation.
