Description of the attraction
Carantwill is a mountain in the southwestern part of Ireland (County Kerry, Munster province), part of the McGillicuddys Ricks. Mount Carantville is 1,038 m (3,406 ft) high and is the highest peak in the island of Ireland. Mount Carantuill is classified as "Furth" by the Scottish Mountaineering Club.
Mount Carantuill is very popular with mountain trekking enthusiasts. It is worth noting that the slopes of Mount Carantuill (as, indeed, the entire McGillicaddis Ricks) are composed mainly of sandstone and are heavily indented during erosion and glacial processes, as a result of which taluses and landslides are often observed here. Nevertheless, Karantuill is not classified as a dangerous peaks, and special climbing equipment is not required to climb this mountain, although excessive caution and attentiveness will still not hurt (you should not go on an independent trip to Karantuill and beginners of mountain trekking).
As you overcome the tedious climb of Mount Carantuill, you will be fully rewarded with breathtaking landscapes and stunning panoramic views of the McGillicuddys Ricks sinking in the clouds and bowl-shaped valleys with picturesque mountain lakes lapping at their bottom.
At the top of the mountain, you will see a huge metal cross, which is 5 meters high. The cross was first installed here in 1976, but in November 2014 it was demolished by vandals, however, a few weeks later the cross was erected in its place.
