Description of the attraction
Kharkiv State Zoo is the most famous and oldest zoo in Ukraine. It was officially founded in 1896 and opened to visitors in 1903. on the site of today's zoo there was only a small exhibition with pets and birds. Occasionally, the exposition was replenished with some wild animals, which were brought by residents from nearby and neighboring villages. There was also a huge apiary in this place.
In 1906, after the completion of the construction of the aquarium, the modern history of the zoo began. The zoological park was created like the Moscow one. But during the civil war, it was almost completely destroyed. This caused great damage to both the animals and the zoo itself. In 1922 the park was rebuilt and excursions were organized again. In 1924 the zoo becomes a zoo.
The zoo covers 22 hectares and is home to over 7700 animals. The zoo preserves and studies representatives of wild fauna from all continents. In addition, the Kharkiv Zoo is a cultural and educational institution, since it conducts various excursions, provides advice on issues related to the protection of wildlife and nature.
Children at the zoo really like it. There is everything for them - attractions, a children's cafe, and playgrounds. No less interesting is the open-air cage, where everyone can take care of the smallest animals.
In the zoo you can see brown and polar bears, foxes, monkeys, elephants, hippos, horses and many other birds and predators, including animals listed in the Red Book.
