Description of the attraction

The Town Hall Square is rightfully considered the heart of Tallinn. This square, which appeared even before the town hall itself, has long been a place of folk festivals, a fair and a trading place. People gathered here for a long time, all kinds of events were held. In this square, city criminals were even executed.

The wide square in front of the town hall, surrounded by old colorful houses huddled together, both in ancient times and today, is the center of the street life of the townspeople. Today fairs and concerts are also held here. In summer, cafes are located around the perimeter of the square, and in winter, for several centuries in a row, a spreading Christmas tree has been installed. This tradition has survived to our time since 1441. The festive tree stands here for a long time - a month, or even a month and a half, a Christmas fair is buzzing around it, where you can buy souvenirs and gifts, and just enjoy the festive atmosphere, get infected with a good mood.

In summer, Town Hall Square becomes the center of Tallinn's Old Town Days. This holiday, which has been celebrated for almost 30 years, is one of the most interesting cultural events in the Baltics. During the festival, the city seems to be returning to the Middle Ages. Locals and guests of the city dress in medieval costumes. At this time, such ancient traditions as knightly tournaments and festive parades are resumed. Music sounds and dances are performed in the streets and courtyards of the Old Town. There are also fairs, all kinds of exhibitions, various theatrical performances. There are craft workshops in which master classes are held on a particular type of craft.
