Description of the attraction
The old estate of Marfino, an original monument of Russian architecture of the 18th - 19th centuries, is located not far from the 39th kilometer of Dmitrovskoe highway. Famous in its time for its palace and park ensemble, magnificent receptions and theatrical performances, the Marfino estate today represents one of the remarkable pages in the history of Russian architecture.
Known since the 16th century, steeped in legends, Marfino is somehow associated with the names of prominent statesmen - B. Golitsyn, Saltykov, Panins - and representatives of Russian culture - N. Karamzin, F. Vigel and many others.
The creators of the Marfinsky ensemble were the talented serf masters V. Belozerov, F. Tugarov and the outstanding Russian architect M. Bykovsky, who demonstrated the versatility of talents and outstanding skill.
In the center, a two-storey palace rises on a high hill. Jagged ridges, pointed turrets, lancet windows make it look like a medieval castle. In front of the palace, instead of the usual ceremonial courtyard, there is a huge pond, around which the main buildings of the estate are grouped. From the center of the palace to the pond, a wide stone staircase descends with terraces, ending with a pier. On the left there is an unusual bridge with loopholes - a kind of front entrance to the estate, behind which two churches are visible, on the right there is a picturesque park with gazebos. The household yard is also well visible. Complementing each other, these buildings evoke a sense of fabulousness.
The manor church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built according to the project of Vasily Belozerov. The architecture of the church is quite original: cruciform with eight faceted windows and multiple stone carvings on the outer walls. The temple is crowned with a high drum cylinder and a dome.
After the revolution, Marfino was taken over as a military sanatorium and was rebuilt. And now the architectural ensemble of the estate requires restoration.
