Description of the attraction
Tryavna is a small town in Central Bulgaria, which is located near Gabrovo. A large number of monuments of architecture and construction skills of the Bulgarian Renaissance period are concentrated here. Tryavno Center is an architectural reserve that includes about one and a half hundred unique buildings. The city is famous for the school of Tryavna masters, the oldest and most famous among other schools of the period of the National Renaissance.
Scientists note that the ancient Thracians left the most noticeable historical mark on this territory. As a Bulgarian settlement, this city has existed since the middle of the 12th century, when it bore the name Trnava. The city experienced the most rapid prosperity in the 18-19th centuries, when crafts, trade and cultural life were actively developing.
Tryavna is attractive for its old buildings, museum houses, narrow streets, the state of which is closely monitored by the administration. On the square of Uncle Nikola there is the Church of the Archangel Michael, founded in the 12th century, around which the city began to grow. A monument of architecture and construction skills of national importance - an old twenty-meter clock tower - rises in the center of the city.
Many house-museums are located in Tryavna. The Daskalov house, built at the beginning of the 19th century, is famous for its unique carvings on the ceiling. A rich collection of paintings by Bulgarian artists is exhibited in the Kalinchev House. The house-museum of the Slaveykovs, classics of national literature, is located on Petko Slaveykov Street. The city has the only wood carving museum in Bulgaria. In the Old School, which is also a museum, many exhibits showcase the learning process in the 19th century. In addition, the city houses the Museum of Africa and Asia, which displays rare examples of culture and art from these parts of the world. This is the only museum of this kind in the Balkans.
The Tryavna icon-painting school also has its own museum. It is located on the outskirts of Tryavna in a church building. Nearby is the house-museum of the famous figure of the Bulgarian liberation movement Angel Kynchev.
The bridge over the river, which is also an architectural monument, leads to the oldest shopping street in the city. There are many craft workshops, souvenir shops and art galleries.
