Description of the attraction
The Shell Museum is one of the most popular attractions in Sanya, very interesting and educational. It is a popular destination for tourists, especially children.
The museum was opened to visitors in 1997 and invites tourists to dive into the depths of the oceans and get acquainted with the mysterious world of underwater inhabitants that have ever lived in the South China Sea.
The area of the premises is 3,000 sq. m. The museum contains several hundred different specimens of shells and mollusks from tropical seas. In total, the expositions in this museum include more than 5,000 species of shells that live in local seas and rivers, as well as about 200 species of sea coral. One of the halls demonstrates the amazing process of how pearls of various shapes and colors are formed in shells.
Now you don't have to go diving to see the beauty of the underwater life of the oceans. The premises of the museum are designed in such a style that it seems to visitors that they are really under the water column and watching tropical creatures. And on the big screen, a video about the oceans, seas and their inhabitants is broadcast, which further immerses visitors into the atmosphere of the depths of the sea. By the way, you can take pictures with all the exhibits.
A visit to the Shell Museum is one of the main attractions for tourists in Sanya. After all, some shells and molluscs are very beautiful and differ in unusual shapes. There is a small shop next to the museum where you can buy various shell souvenirs.
Most tourists, at the same time as the Shell Museum, also visit the Butterfly Museum, which is located nearby.
