Description of the attraction

The Museum of Cultural Heritage of Ukraine appeared in 1999. It is located in an old building, erected in 1785. Before the opening of the museum, the building underwent a major reconstruction. The main goal of the museum, which is a branch of the Museum of the History of Kiev, is collecting with the subsequent exhibiting of the works of Ukrainian masters, for various reasons forced to live outside of Ukraine. Thanks to the expositions of the museum, visitors have the opportunity to get acquainted with the biographies of prominent figures of Ukrainian culture - writers, chorus masters, poets, singers and choreographers, who were born and studied in Kiev, and then left it. It is thanks to the activities of the Museum of Cultural Heritage of Ukraine that a large number of works of art created by her sons and daughters have been returned to the country.

The main collection of the museum contains about three thousand exhibits. These are not only paintings, but also graphics, modeling, objects of decorative and applied art. The collection also contains newspaper articles, records of festivals, school textbooks published abroad in Ukrainian, manuscripts, photographs, as well as personal belongings of Ukrainian musicians, writers and artists. The largest hall of the museum is dedicated to the exposition highlighting the life and work of the famous dancer Serge Lifar. The founders of the museum have not forgotten about the popular Ukrainian theater, so museum visitors can get acquainted with photographic materials telling about theatrical collectives of Ukrainians in France, USA, Canada and even Australia. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the staff of the Museum of Cultural Heritage try to organize personal and thematic exhibitions. So, one of the last such exhibitions was an exposition dedicated to postcards.
