Every tourist who has a long transfer expects maximum amenities from the airport - the availability of places to relax, play areas for children, eateries, shops, and in general everything that can take a person for a couple of hours or more. We have highlighted the top 3 airports in Europe for long distance connections.
We are not talking about those air hubs where it is allowed to enter the city without a visa, go on an excursion or stay overnight at a hotel. At regular airports, the passenger will wait for his connection in the transit area.
Features of long docking
Everyone wants to get to their destination as quickly as possible. A passenger in transit through a large hub would rather prefer a short connection to a long one. And in vain, because for reasons beyond his control he may not be able to catch his second plane: flights from the starting point are sometimes delayed, and air transport at the place of transfer does not wait for anyone, leaving latecomers in a foreign country until the next flight. And there were such cases that the next plane will fly to the desired city only in 3-4 days. And the poor passenger is forced to spend money on other transport, while being nervous and worried.
There are several features of long joints:
- often the plane arrives at one terminal and departs further from another, so it is easier for passengers who have several hours to spare to find the desired terminal and gate;
- passengers who cross the Schengen borders and make a difficult flight with different airlines receive additional time for another customs and passport control;
- if a passenger is forced to spend the night at the transit airport while waiting for his departure, then he can comfortably get a job in capsule hotels, for which, however, you will have to pay extra;
- also, for a fee, transit passengers have access to superior lounges with showers.
Airport in Frankfurt am Main
A large airport, which is often chosen as an air transit hub. Experienced tourists note that, despite the impressive dimensions of the airport, everything in it works like a clock.
If you have to spend a few extra hours at Frankfurt am Main Airport, there will be no shortage of entertainment. Traveling with children - Take a tour of the air terminal with a knowledgeable guide. Such tours are very popular and will be interesting not only for kids, but also for their parents. If you are traveling alone, with a friend or your parents, go to the supermarket at your leisure. You can also sit at one of the local cafes. Snacks, hot dogs and water are also sold in special vending machines. Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport.
There is no reason to expect that you will quickly get to the desired gate at this airport. Docking must be at least one hour long.
Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam
One of the largest airports in Europe, Amsterdam Schiphol is ideal for long waiting times for your flight. There is a play area for children, a library for intellectuals, a branch of the Rijksmuseum for art lovers, a shopping center for shopaholics where residents of the Dutch capital even shop, and a casino for gamblers.
There are also cafes with restaurants at the airport, but the average check in them will be quite high. For budget travelers, there are several outlets that sell inexpensive hot dogs, hamburgers, and similar food.
There are not as many toilets at the airport as we would like. The Internet works intermittently - it can turn off at the most inopportune moment.
Vantaa Airport to Helsinki
Small by European standards, Helsinki Airport is nevertheless the largest in Finland. Those who are stuck here for a few hours will be able to make good use of this time.
- First, you can send postcards home from the airport. They are sold at several kiosks. Throw signed postcards with stamps into the yellow mailboxes around the airport.
- Secondly, take a picture at all the sculptures that adorn the halls of the air hub.
- Third, go up to the outdoor terrace where you can watch the daily life of the airport. Look for her in the office building near Terminal 2.
You also need to find an original photo zone - wooden houses with decorated Christmas trees. It is called "Christmas Corner" and is open all year round. The kids will have a special task - to count all the elves in the houses.
There is a soft seating area in Terminal 1. Passengers usually stay there for the night. The rest of the waiting areas are hard chairs. You can also sleep on them if there is nowhere else.
There is a cafe at the airport, but food in them, as, indeed, in all of Finland, is not cheap. All catering points are open only until 21:00.
