Uglich is a city officially included in the Golden Ring route. Tourists arrive here by buses and ships, as part of sightseeing tours or on their own, for a couple of hours or for a week. Main attractions
All major city attractions are located in the city center, on the Volga embankment or in the neighborhoods closest to it. Tourists will be interested in:
- Kremlin … The space of the old fortress does not have walls with towers. This is a site open to all winds over the Volga, where only one structure has survived from the ancient structure - the chambers of Tsarevich Dmitry of the 15th century. All other buildings, and these are three temples, date from a later time;
- monasteries … At an equal distance from the Kremlin, there are three holy monasteries in a semicircle. The Resurrection Monastery is located at the dam of the hydroelectric power station. It dates back to the 17th century and consists of a cathedral, three churches and a bell tower. The Alekseevsky Monastery stands on the "Fire Mountain", where pagans used to gather in the old days. It is worth looking here for the sake of the Assumption Church, called the Wonderful. It is crowned with three candle tents and looks very original. The Epiphany Monastery, founded in the 14th century, is located on Rostovskaya Street, which used to be the outskirts of Uglich. This monastery is associated with the name of the mother of the murdered in the city of Tsarevich Dmitry - Mary. She took tonsure here;
- museums … Uglich museums will delight any tourist. Here you can find historical exhibitions - the Museum of the History of Uglich, the Museum of Legends of Uglich, the Museum of Family Happiness - and thematic ones, for example, the Museums of Tea, Vodka, and Prison Art.
Where to go for free
When visiting the Uglich Kremlin, you will have to pay for viewing the expositions located in the buildings that make up the complex. You can enter the territory of the old Kremlin absolutely free of charge. Also, without payment, you can get into the Kremlin Transfiguration Cathedral, where it is customary to look at wall frescoes of the 19th century, including a replica of Raphael's painting in the Vatican, and admire the seven-level iconostasis. Alas, they will be allowed to enter the bell tower of the church only after your modest donation to the needs of the Church.
V Resurrection monastery all comers are allowed absolutely free of charge. Here you can see the Resurrection Cathedral and the Church of Hodegetria with beautiful frescoes.
On the Volga embankment, a stone's throw from the Resurrection Monastery, there is another interesting temple, for which entrance fees are not charged - Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist … In order not to affect this graceful temple, in Soviet times, the site of the construction of a dam on the Volga was even moved. At one time this church was painted by Nicholas Roerich.

Boys of all ages will love the interactive exhibit at Hydropower Museum … And they can be immediately enrolled in a master class on conducting physical experiments.
Another must-see place for children in Uglich is Museum of Myths and Superstitions, where it is in the order of things to run into Baba Yaga or a brownie in the exhibition halls.
In the vicinity of Uglich, in the village of Ivashkovo, works ethnopark "Another world", where you can get acquainted with live horses, and ride some of them. Kids lovers of wildlife will love this farm park!
Uglich in winter and summer
In the summer, the people from Uglich go out of town to transform for a few days from decorous townspeople into romantics who love gatherings around the fire. There are several tourist clubs in the city that organize exciting rafting tours along the rivers in the vicinity of Uglich.
In winter, the city turns into a playground for a fun festival with snowmobile and ATV rides, taking a snow fortress, playing snowballs, descending steep rammed slides, contests and prizes.
Near the Kremlin throughout the winter, and not only during the festival, there is a cheesecake trail. To go skiing, you need to go to the outskirts of the city, to the Green Grove.
