Modern Poland is considered one of the most multinational states on the planet, the reason for which was the chain of historical events of the middle of the twentieth century. During and after World War II, the German, Polish and Ukrainian populations massively moved across Europe as a result of changes in the state borders of their countries. Many residents of the post-Soviet space are striving to find an answer to the question of how to move to Poland, and therefore the percentage of immigrants from Russia in Warsaw and other Polish cities is very impressive.
Residence. Where to begin?
Despite the fact that Poles assess their own standard of living very unflattering, and prefer to go to other countries of the Old World to earn money, Russian immigrants consider the local level of income to be quite decent for themselves. Statistics claim that the ability to pay of Poles is, on average, a third higher than that of Russian citizens, and therefore thousands of new immigrants are joining the ranks of the inhabitants of Warsaw, Krakow and other cities every year.
The first step towards Polish citizenship is obtaining a residence permit. In Poland it is called Karta czasowego pobytu. A plastic card performs several functions:
- Proves the identity of its owner.
- Confirms that the immigrant is in the country legally, and indicates the duration of the residence permit.
- It gives the right to leave Poland and visit other countries of the Schengen Agreement for up to 90 days within every 6 months.
- Ensures the right to receive medical care.
- Allows you to purchase real estate.
A residence permit is issued for 1-2 years, depending on the reasons for obtaining and other circumstances. If the cardholder did not violate immigration laws and has legal grounds to extend the residence permit, the card will be extended for another 2-3 years.
Legal ways to move to Poland for permanent residence
To obtain legal grounds to stay in Poland for more than three months, you will have to use one of the ways to become a resident of the country:
- To marry a citizen or citizen of Poland or a person permanently residing on its territory.
- Sign an employment contract with a Polish employer.
- Get an invitation from a higher education institution and go to the country to get an education.
- Open your own company and start a business in Poland.
- Reunite with family members who are willing to reaffirm your relationship with them, make a commitment to financially support new arrivals and demonstrate sufficient funds.
Any of the paths has its own advantages and disadvantages, but as a result, the new resident of the Republic of Poland gets the right to permanently reside in a state that is progressive in terms of economic development, to visit other Schengen countries without a visa, to enjoy social benefits and high-quality medical care.
All works are good
The Polish labor market needs a labor force. The main demand is observed in various sectors of agriculture and construction. In hospitals, nurses and nurses are required, and in the homes of wealthy Poles, nannies, maids and gardeners are required.
For Russian citizens, Polish laws provide for the possibility of working in Poland for a maximum of six months a year without special permission. In this case, entry into the country is possible with a work visa issued for six months. This period allows the employer to understand whether the employee is comfortable with him, and the potential immigrant himself to test the ground for moving to Poland for permanent residence.
If both parties agree, the employer contacts the local government to obtain a work permit for their employee. A residence permit for an annual work visa is issued for 15 months or for the duration of the employment contract and is subject to extension if necessary.
Learning with pleasure
If you decide to study at one of the universities in Poland, a residence permit will be issued for the first year of study. The university will extend it for the next academic cycle if your academic performance is at its best. We are talking only about full-time education.
The prices for studying in Poland are quite affordable compared to other EU countries, and if you get into the international student exchange program, you won't have to pay for education at all.
For obtaining a residence permit, language courses are also suitable, for which they usually come for a period of a year. During this time, active people have time to either find an interesting job, or a party suitable for marriage.
You will be declared husband and wife
Obtaining a residence permit, resident status, and ultimately citizenship in Poland is also possible by creating a family with its citizen. The only condition is a constant willingness to confirm to the inspection authorities that your relationship is sincere and your marriage is real. Newlyweds will be invited for personal interviews, check the truth of their intentions by talking to neighbors, and evidence in the form of a joint bank account, photographs and travel for two together on vacation will have to be collected during the entire period of waiting for a permanent residence permit. The good news is that it will be possible to obtain the coveted status through marriage, subject to all conditions, within two years after the wedding.
Think for yourself, decide for yourself
- An application for a permanent residence permit in Poland can be made only after five years of residence in the country with a temporary residence permit. After receiving permanent residence, the prospect of becoming a full citizen appears in three years.
- While in the country as a student, remember that only half of the time of your stay here is "credited" with the length of service for obtaining permanent residence. In addition, a residence permit that ended shortly before graduation may not be extended to you, since the Polish authorities believe that a student can successfully write a diploma at home. But with a Polish diploma, it is much easier to find a job after graduation, especially since you can establish yourself in reputable companies by earning extra money already in the course of your studies.
Having decided to move to live in Poland, Russian immigrants quite easily master the language, can confirm their diploma of higher or secondary specialized education and work in their specialty, providing themselves and their families with a decent standard of living. And Poland is geographically located quite close to Russia, and its new citizens do not feel disconnected from their historical homeland and can always visit their relatives and friends who have remained there.
