It is not for nothing that the capital of Great Britain is known as a world tourist Mecca. Sightseeing, museums, shopping and, of course, the holidays of London attract millions of fans of exciting travel to the city on the Thames every year.
Four seasons
Regardless of the time of year, holidays in London have their rightful place in the calendar and every time they become a weighty reason to book air tickets to the English capital:
- The main winter holiday is Christmas. Nothing human is alien to the inhabitants of Great Britain, and therefore elegant Christmas trees, fireworks, New Year's illumination, fairs and discounts in stores are present in the capital these days in full.
- The birthday of Scottish national poet Robert Burns is especially widely celebrated in his homeland, but London also organizes many interesting events for fans of his work.
- Saint Valentine is revered in Great Britain no less than among Catholics in other countries. This holiday in London promises all guests a special menu, pleasant programs in clubs, discounts for lovers and a romantic atmosphere.
- Spring in Great Britain is celebrated with the days of Saints David and Patrick - the patrons of Wales and Scotland. They are followed by April Fool's Day, Easter and Her Majesty's Birthday.
- On the last day of April, Londoners gather for Walpurgis Night - the main coven of evil spirits, gathered in ancient times to attract large harvests to fields and farms.
- Summer kicks off with the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament and continues with the commemoration of Saints Peter and Paul on June 29th and St. Svithun on July 15th.
- In the fall, London gets scared on Halloween, burns fires on Guy Fawkes' night and honors those killed in the First World War.
Note for gourmets
Whiskey aficionados can sample their favorite drink and enjoy the conversation with like-minded people at the annual Whiskey Live Festival in the UK capital in the second half of March. In 2016, this celebration in London will inaugurate on 18 March in an old 18th century mansion a stone's throw from Liverpool Street tube station, where the Honorary Artillery Society is located. The program includes acquaintance with new varieties of whiskey, master classes in making cocktails, tasting exclusive drinks and meeting with producers from several countries of the world.
Vivat, Queen
Despite the fact that the birth record of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was made on April 21, it is customary to celebrate Birthday nationwide on the second Saturday in June.
In addition to state flags hung throughout the city, guests of the holiday will enjoy a ceremonial parade with the removal of the banner and the raising of the guards, the passage of Her Majesty in the royal carriage and many festive events in all parts of London.
On other days, you can feel the atmosphere of a real royal court at Buckingham Palace, where Her Majesty's guardsmen stage a theatrical performance of changing the guard.
