Going on vacation to any country in the Balkans, you can be sure that you will not go hungry. And Montenegro is no exception in this sense. Her cuisine was born from a strong marriage of Mediterranean traditions and Balkan customs. She is implicated in Hungarian flavor, Turkish generosity, Greek goodness and Italian artistry, and therefore the portions are huge, the aromas are great, and the enjoyment of a meal in restaurants in Montenegro is comparable only to a date with a nice person.

Montenegrin cuisine has prepared many nice masterpieces for the guests of the country. Two directions of culinary are quite clearly traced here: seaside and continental. The first is based on the use of a huge amount of seafood, and the second is based on meat, milk and cheeses, the ecological quality of which is beyond praise in the country.
Regardless of the location, each restaurant in Montenegro offers its visitors local specialties, without which a gastronomic trip around the country cannot take place. Dried meat prosciutto and chevapchichi sausages, kaymak made from natural sheep's milk and pleskavitsa cutlet - all these strange names conceal hearty and solid food, after trying which travelers go to move mountains in the literal and figurative sense.
Konoba or pub?
Restaurants in Montenegro can be conditionally divided into several categories, each of which assumes a certain pricing policy and level of service:
- Konoba, decorated in traditional national style. These are taverns with authentic cuisine, the menu of which presents all the main Montenegrin dishes. Some of the more expensive restaurants are also called konobami so that tourists are more likely to stop by in the hope of trying the local food. The difference in the bill can be up to five times, and the quality of the food can be absolutely equal.
- In pubs, they usually talk after work and on weekends, drink a lot and even dance. The food here is mainly snacks.
- Breakfast can be enjoyed at the kafan, which serves coffee, dairy dishes, cereals, puddings, casseroles and pastries.
Useful observations
The average bill in restaurants in Montenegro can be up to 20 euros with wine per person, if you look into an ordinary institution, which is full in the Balkan cities. The main similarity of all restaurants is the excellent and solid quality of food and a surprisingly comfortable atmosphere. And one more important observation! Montenegrins adore children and any couple with a baby will be surrounded by special care and love.
