The airport in Kemerovo named after the hero of the Soviet Union, pilot-cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, is located 11 km from the center to the southeastern part of the city. In 2004, the B-class airport, having received international status, began to serve international flights. Regular charter flights to European, South Asian countries, as well as Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt are carried out from here.

Kemerovo Airport is capable of receiving and servicing aircraft of any type, including heavy-duty Boeing-767 aircraft. It is noteworthy that, despite the large number of international charter flights operated by the airline, the airport operates flights across Russia mainly to Moscow, Krasnoyarsk and Sochi. The main air carriers of the Kemerovo airport are: Transaero, Aeroflot and S7 Airlines. The airport's capacity is more than seven hundred passengers per hour.

History

The airport in Kemerovo was formed in the early 60s of the last century. His first flights were carried out on small aircrafts IL-18, mainly of local direction. By the mid-70s, the airport began to serve non-stop flights on the routes Moscow-Sochi. In the early 90s, routes were added to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Krasnodar, Mineralnye Vody, and other cities of Russia.

At the end of 2001, a runway with a length of 3200 m was put into operation and the airport began to receive wide-body international class airliners such as Boeing 747. In the same year, the airline received international status.

In 2012, the Kemerovo International Airport was renamed into the “Alexei Arkhipovich Leonov Kemerovo International Airport”.
