Description of the attraction

Sous d'Oulx, located at 1,510 meters above sea level and surrounded by the mountain peaks of Triplet, Bourget and Genevry, is not only a popular ski resort suitable for a wide variety of winter sports, but also a well-known summer resort that attracts tourists their landscapes. This small town is often called the “balcony of the Alps”.

The history of Soz d'Ulx is closely linked to the history of the entire Val di Susa. Here passed the legions of the Roman emperor Julius Caesar, hordes of the Goths, the troops of the Lombards and Burgundians. All this territory, which was part of the so-called Dauphin possessions, was transferred to France in 1343, and in 1713, according to the Treaty of Utrecht, passed to the Savoy dynasty. It was here that the headquarters of the French army was located during the Battle of Assietta in the middle of the 18th century, and all those who died in that battle were buried in a place later called Las Fossas.

The name of the town - Soz-d'Ulx - was "Italianized" by Mussolini's order and began to sound like Salice d'Ulzio, but after the Second World War the original name became official again. With the decline of agriculture, which began in the 1960s, Soz-d'Ulx gradually began to develop into a tourist resort focused on alpine skiing. Today it is one of the most popular ski resorts in Val di Susa, and its slopes and lifts are technically considered some of the best in the world! In total, more than 400 km of trails have been laid here and 92 ski lifts are in operation. The town itself has a well-developed tourist infrastructure - good hotels and alpine shelters have been built, restaurants and bars offering local cuisine have been opened, and conditions have been created for family vacations.

In summer, Soz-d'Ulx is no less popular - tourists are attracted by mesmerizing landscapes and a mild climate. During warmer months, you can go hiking in the surrounding mountains, go horseback riding, go fishing in the local rivers and lakes, or play tennis or golf. Gourmets will love the tasting of local mountain cheese, game dishes and other delicacies.

Separately, it should be said about the "Station Experimental Vittorio Vezzani", organized in 1931 by Professor Vittorio Vezzani. Today, strawberries, raspberries, red currants, medicinal plants and various herbs are grown here at an altitude of 1700 to 2000 meters on an area of 82 hectares. Cattle, sheep, rabbits and pigs are also bred here. And it is here that delicious mountain cheese and other high-quality products are produced.
