The Sochi Art Museum is located in the central area of the resort town. This museum is the successor to the Exhibition Hall of Fine Arts of the city of Sochi, founded in 1971.
The museum is located in one of the most beautiful city buildings, which is an architectural monument of the 1930s. This building was erected in 1936 as the administrative center of the Plenipotentiary of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of the USSR. The author of this project was the academician of architecture I. V. Zholtovsky.
Today the museum occupies an area with a total area of 0.67 hectares. The museum's funds include about 5054 exhibits, which include almost all the most famous genres and types of fine arts. In the exposition of the museum you can see edged weapons of the 2nd-1st centuries. AD, antique silver, Old Russian icons of the eighteenth-twentieth centuries, collections of graphics, paintings and works of decorative and applied art, starting from the nineteenth century. to the present day. Here at the same time about 10 expositions of temporary and permanent storage are displayed, arousing the constant interest of Sochi residents and guests of the city.
The museum has three active exhibitions: "Russian art of the XIX-XXI centuries." (sculpture, painting, graphics), "Decorative and applied art of Russia of the XX century." and “Megaproject. Model of Sochi Olympic "with planning projects of Olympic facilities. The main asset of the Sochi museum is considered to be a collection of paintings, replete with works of many famous artists of both the pre-revolutionary period and artists of the 20th century - I. Aivazovsky, I. Shishkin, B. Kustodiev, V. Polenov, V. Serov and others.
Various temporary exhibitions are organized at the Sochi Art Museum every month. The museum has an art salon where you can buy art antiques, works of art, as well as handicrafts and much more.
