Warehouse Island
Warehouse Island

Description of the attraction

Warehouse Island is an island on the Motlawa River in Gdansk, located in the city center. Warehouses were built in these locations around 1330. Since the thirteenth century, there was an industrial area with granaries, and in the 16th century it was a full-fledged warehouse complex. More than 300 barns were built of wood, brick, clay and stones. The island itself appeared in 1576, after the New Motlawa Canal was dug. The new warehouses were equipped with wooden platforms for loading and unloading goods. The construction of a canal around the island was associated with measures to protect private warehouses from looting. A complete ban on staying at night was introduced on the island; at this time, a flock of guard dogs was released. Robberies were punishable by death. In 1540, a flood occurred in the city, which flooded the island completely for two weeks.

In 1885, a railway was brought to the island, which greatly simplified the delivery of goods to Gdansk. Because of fire safety, the train cars were pulled by horses, not steam locomotives. Cobbled streets and remnants of railway tracks can still be seen on the island.

In 1945, the island was almost completely destroyed after the Soviet army entered the city, only the Milhcannentor gate, built in 1519, survived. In the post-war period, only a small part of the former buildings was restored.

Various agricultural crops are currently planned to be grown on the island.

The Polish people have not forgotten anything, but the Russian have forgotten how in 1939 they divided Poland with the Nazi troops. And Khatyn forgot - who shot the Poles there? Do not distort history to suit your needs! Do not pretend! The Lord knows everything and sees all the sins, no matter how much you would like to score them and blot them out of the study

how can the Soviet army "invade" the city in 1945? On purpose to destroy some buildings? She entered there to free him from the fascist occupation and atrocities. The Polish people have forgotten that the Soviet Army turned off the stoves of the fascist concentration camps where the Poles were exterminated? Or maybe this is not for

Have the Polish people forgotten that the Soviet Army turned off the stoves of the fascist concentration camps where the Poles were exterminated? Or maybe it shouldn't have been done? Why distort history?
