Description of the attraction

The Church of the Archangel Michael is located in the Old Town, on its upper square of Duke Stefan. Unofficially, this square is called Belavista, because it offers a picturesque view of the bay. The church is surrounded by four palm trees; there is a fountain in the square in front of the church, as well as a cafe.

The construction of the church was started relatively recently - in 1883. Most of the project was designed by the famous architect Milan Karlovac, but several other architects were involved in the construction. The Church of the Archangel Michael was completed by 1911, and in the same year it was solemnly consecrated.

The church is quite small in size, but it attracts the attention of art historians and tourists because its appearance demonstrates a mixture of several architectural styles: Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic, as well as the consequences of Islamic influence.

The interior of the church is no less impressive than the exterior. The church is famous for the iconostasis made by master Bilinic, a native of Split. The main material he used is marble of Italian origin. The church also contains several icons by the famous Czech painter Franjo Sigler.
