Description of the attraction
The youngest and most original landmark of Samara is the legendary Soyuz launch vehicle, being the only genuine monument in Europe of the assembled rocket. The author of the project, which combines the museum building and the monument, is the architect V. Zhukov. The idea of a "space" complex in Samara is considered the most successful in recent years.
The Museum and Exhibition Center "Samara Kosmicheskaya" was opened on April 12, 2007 on Lenin Avenue, next to the "Rossiyskaya" metro station in honor of the anniversary of Gagarin's flight into space and the 45th anniversary of Samara space engineering. The height of the launch vehicle together with the building is about 68 meters, and its weight is 20 tons. The pedestal of the monument rocket houses a museum of cosmonautics with exhibits of rocket engines, descent capsules and many other equipment related to space exploration and rocketry. In the exhibition hall, visitors, sitting in an armchair of the original design, can watch films (of their choice) on the screen - the porthole of the ship, plunging into the magical atmosphere of the "Expectations of Space" project.
In the spring of 2011. in front of the museum there was a sculpture of an astronaut in a bright orange spacesuit, as tall as a man. The opening of the composition was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the first flight into space, and for the "cartoonish" view of the Samarans dubbed the sculpture - a cosmopups. Now the site in front of the museum complex is a favorite place for photo sessions for guests and residents of the city.
