Description of the attraction

Just a few years ago, the Canadian Air and Space Museum (until 2009, the official name was the Toronto Aerospace Museum) was rightfully considered one of the most interesting sights of the city of Toronto. The museum was located in Downsview Park in a spacious hangar, which once housed the production of the famous British aircraft manufacturer - De Havilland Aircraft Company, and then the Royal Canadian Air Force station and the Toronto Military Base.

In the exposition of the Canadian Museum of Aviation and Space, one could see the Avro Lancaster bomber, a full-scale copy of the Avro Arrow fighter-interceptor, the Tiger Moth biplane, the Grumman "Tracker", a copy of the first Canadian artificial Earth satellite - Alouette 1, as well as the original equipment used for the construction of educational - training biplanes Curtiss JN-4 "Jenny" in 1917-1918, flight simulators and simulators, exhibits related to the history of the Downsview Air Force Base and much more.

On September 20, 2011, the Canadian Air and Space Museum received an eviction notice due to massive rent arrears. The large-scale campaign that unfolded immediately after this in support of the museum with the involvement of the general public did not work, and the museum was forced to leave the hangar in Downsview Park. Unfortunately, even today the museum was unable to acquire a new premises. Museum exhibits, meanwhile, are stored in warehouses at the Toronto Pearson International Airport.

You can get acquainted with the impressive collection of the museum and the detailed history of aviation in Canada, which is more than 100 years old, on the official website of the museum.
