If you are visiting Chile, be sure to visit the Teatro Municipal of Santiago. Enjoy its grandeur and beauty, watch the performances of famous ballet corpses or listen to the Philharmonic Orchestra, violinists or pianists.
The opening of the theater in 1857 was an event in the theatrical life of Santiago with the presentation of "Ernani" by Giuseppe Verdi. Since then, famous opera and ballet artists such as Luciano Pavarotti and Julio Boca, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Placido Domingo have performed on its stage.
You can watch both classical and modern performances of the Chilean national ballet, such as Adolphe Adam's Giselle, Zorba the Greek and Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker. Enjoy staging famous operas including Verdi's Othello, Mozart's The Magic Flute and Bellini's Puritans. The Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra performs in opera and ballet performances, and also conducts its own concerts.

Over the past 150 years, the theater has survived the 1906 earthquake with extensive destruction of the interior of the building and two major fires. After the renovations, the theater's capacity was reduced to 1,500 people. in the main hall. However, its interior has become more luxurious.

In 1974, the Teatro Municipal of Santiago was declared a Chilean National Monument.
