In 2011, the Casino Kurzaal was renamed the "Congress Center Kurzaal" and became a venue for conferences, business meetings, seminars and similar events. The convenient location of the complex on the banks of the Are River in the center of a popular alpine resort has made it very popular among the business elite around the world. Congress Center Kurzaal offers its guests 19 spacious rooms equipped with the latest technology for various events. There can be 2 thousand people in the building at the same time.
The Kurzaal was built in 1859 as a spa salon for relaxation, reading, games, conversation and tea drinking. The respectable audience gathered here for a merry pastime. In 1910, a concert and theater hall was opened in the Kurzaal.
Until recently, the famous casino was located in Kursaal, where guests of the resort could relax by playing roulette, poker and blackjack, as well as slot machines. The casino appeared in this building in 1967 and was then called the "Little Casino", and after a while a law came into effect in Switzerland prohibiting gambling in the country. This law was canceled only at the end of the 20th century. In 2009, the 150th anniversary of Kurzaal was celebrated in Interlaken with great pomp, and the next year its reconstruction into an elite business center began. Financing of the finishing works was taken over by Interlaken Congress & Events AG, which organizes celebrations and business meetings in Interlaken. First, one auditorium was designed for the needs of businessmen, and then the rest of the premises of the former casino.
