Description of the attraction
An interesting natural object in the vicinity of the resort Tuapse are the waterfalls on the Dederkoy River.
The name of the river comes from the Adyghe words "dy-holes" and "kuay". The waterfalls themselves are located seven kilometers from the mouth (confluence) of the Dederkoy River. Among them there are two large ones: The Upper Waterfall is located on the Vostochny Dederkoy River, 400 meters above the confluence with the Dederkoy River. And the lower one is 400 meters lower. The height of both waterfalls does not exceed seven meters.
You can get to the waterfalls from Tuapse by bus # 10 to the final stop "Kamenny Kar'er", then cross the Tuapse River over the concrete bridge and continue along the forest path along the valley of the Second Chestnut Shift River through a small pass. The length of the route is about 9 kilometers. The road passes through an incredibly beautiful and light chestnut forest, which in May still stands without leaves, and in the summer months it shelters tourists with pleasant coolness and shade.
The walls of the upper waterfall are composed of Mesozoic limestones framed by evergreen ivy and mosses. At the foot there is a small lake with crystal clear cool water. The bottom consists of a stone knocked out by falling water and resembles a bath. If you make your way above the upper waterfall, then a beautiful canyon will open before your eyes, at the bottom of which there is a deep lake. After the lake there is a wide water slope and another waterfall with a height of 14 meters. Here you can find deep stone baths for bathing, beautiful and comfortable places for a bivouac, very rare pink orchid flowers.
The lower cascade of Dederkoy waterfalls passes among blocks of sandstone and boulders, they are of small height - about three meters, with remarkable names: "Goluboy", "Azure", "Gray beard". The passage to the base of the Lower Waterfall is a bit difficult, but on its right side there is a rope and rope railings.
If you continue further along the river between the boulders, you can easily reach the sea. By the way, the Dederkoy beach is quite cozy and well-equipped, pebbly, with clear water even during the roughness of the sea.
