Description of the attraction
The Architectural and Ethnographic Museum is located 12 km from Vologda, on the river bank in an unusually picturesque place. Here mixed and coniferous forests merge organically, the territory is framed by a river and many streams, there is a swamp, and a flooded meadow is spread out. The area of the museum is measured at 12, 7 hectares. The main goal of the museum is to recreate the appearance of the village of the north with its way of life dating from the late 19th - early 20th centuries, the organizers of the exposition of the architectural and ethnographic museum succeeded.
For visiting the Architectural and Ethnographic Museum was opened in 1992, but the date of its foundation is considered to be December 1979. The essence of the matter is that up to 1990, the museum's team of authors carried out expeditionary work, as well as studies of the Vologda Territory, as a result of which objects for moving to the territory of the museum were selected. During this time, considerable material has accumulated, thanks to which the basis for the planning of the settlement and some estates has been created, and the individuality of the buildings of each of the districts of the region has been preserved.
At the moment, there are 19 exhibit buildings in the museum: a chapel, which was rebuilt by modern craftsmen, but according to old models, ten houses, six barns, one glacier - all buildings belong to the architecture of the late XIX - early XX centuries. The interior of the peasant hut has been restored in the houses: the red corner with the goddess, the Russian stove, kitchen utensils, shops and other property of the peasant life, which fully reflects the way of life and traditions of the peasant family of the north.
The most ancient building in the museum is the Kochkin house, transported from the Tarnogsky district, the date of construction dates back to the 70s of the 19th century. In the very center of the village there is a large, richly decorated with sculptural and saw-cut carvings, the Bolotovs' house dating from the beginning of the twentieth century, transported from the Nyuksen district. Only a very skillful and hardworking person could build and maintain this house. There are also expositions dedicated to various types of peasant labor activity: "Carpentry and joinery skills", "Flax processing".
In the Slobodins' house (second half of the 19th century), transported from the Totemsky district, there is an exhibition dedicated to hunting. Here you can see hunting trophies, equipment and weapons, visitors have the opportunity to learn a lot of interesting things about the tradition of Russian hunting.
In the architectural style of the strong and solid house of the Zhukovs, the influence of urban buildings is already clearly visible. The owner of the estate was quite rich, it is easy to guess about this from the gate well, two barns, a glacier and a bathhouse built in the courtyard.
The expositions presented in the museum are very fascinating and informative. For example, each hut has its own caretaker, he will be happy to answer all your questions and, with undisguised pride, will demonstrate the features of his own hut.
The museum is popular both among the residents of Vologda and among the guests of the city. Various forms of work with visitors are used here. In addition to the excursion show, events are offered according to the national calendar, for example, Kuzminki, Maslenitsa, June Wreath, Cabbage evenings, weddings, anniversaries and presentations that are held in the interior of a Russian house.
In their museum and exhibition activities, the museum staff actively use the rare landscape of the territory. Classes in nature studies and geography are often held for local students on the territory of the museum.
The list of museum programs also includes an excursion to the forest adjacent to the territory on both sides. The main idea of this excursion is the desire of the museum staff to show and preserve the folk traditions of the consumption of natural resources. Routes for tourists in the natural landscape complex have been developed. You can walk through the forest on a snowmobile, ski or horse.
In addition to exhibitions and excursions, the museum offers a huge number of souvenirs. Taking into account the needs of today's society for entertainment events, and the effective demand that has developed on this basis, the museum annually holds mass festivities with a characteristic Russian scale.
