Description of the attraction

There is an opinion that half-timbered houses are not typical for the traditional architecture of Austria. However, once you find yourself in the very heart of Austria, on Lake Wörthersee, this statement can be doubted. Here is the romantic half-timbered Villa Hoyos, built around 1895 by an unknown French architect. In general, in the second half of the 19th century, with the expansion of the railway network, when Lake Wörthersee was connected with the capital of the empire, the city of Vienna, many wealthy people who wished to build their summer houses here learned about Perchach. Thus, a number of luxurious villas appeared on the shores of the lake, similar to castles that descended from the pages of fairy tales. One of these villas was the Hoyos Palace.

Despite the fact that Villa Hoyos was not built on the very shore of the lake, but a little in the distance, from the windows of its upper floors there is a magnificent view of the calm surface of the lake. Hoyos Summer Residence is surrounded by a garden, but the tree branches do not obstruct the view.

As the name of the villa suggests, it was built for Ladislaus Maria, Count von Hoyos. The count died in 1901. His wife passed away in 1920. Their descendants were able to preserve their ancestral nest, so the Hoyos villa still belongs to the Hoyos family. The famous poet Rainer Maria Rilke wrote about this villa to the daughter of Count von Hoyos Maria Theresa. According to some researchers of his work, he could visit the Hoyos Palace, and then recreate the atmosphere of deserted alleys, where the wind is blowing, in his own poems.

In 1996, the reconstruction of Villa Hoyos was carried out. The current descendants of Count Hoyos ordered to build an open terrace on the roof.
