Description of the attraction
In the vicinity of Oulu, at a distance of about 35 km, there is a museum and a recreated site of primitive man - "Kierikki". This Stone Age Center tells the story of Finnish culture and life during that era.
Already in the IV millennium BC. permanent settlements of people began to appear in Kierikki, whose numbers grew at a fairly rapid pace and whose main way of obtaining food was hunting for seals.
The Kierikki building is one of the largest log buildings in the world. It hosts various congresses and conferences. A hotel has recently been opened for tourists. At the restaurant you can taste homemade Finnish cuisine, and in the shop you can buy unique souvenirs and gifts.
Not far from the Center, based on the data of archaeological excavations carried out in this area, a Stone Age Village was erected. The trails leading into the forest from the Village will take you past prehistoric bird and animal traps.
Visitors to Kierikki will also find an old shooting range, where an experienced instructor will teach everyone the art of archery. And in the workshop, you can try yourself as a master, seeing how in prehistoric times arrowheads were made from scrap materials.
