Description of the attraction

Dolmens of Tuapse are a complex of historical dolmens located not far from the resort town of Tuapse, in the village of Prigorodny on the slope of Mount Bogatyrka.

The excursion path to the dolmens passes through a dense thicket of forest, but despite this, it is quite well trodden. In places where there are steep slopes, the path is additionally equipped with various handrails and earthen steps, which help to quickly and safely get to the desired place.

According to the statements of modern Russian local historians, at present there are about 400 historical dolmens on the territory of the Tuapse region. Most of these dolmens are of a peculiar tiled type. They usually consist of several huge stone slabs, four of which are necessarily installed vertically, and the fifth slab covers all of them, thereby forming a stone house.

The most interesting thing is that the stone slabs were not processed from the outside. Looking inside this powerful structure, you can see that its walls are almost aligned and polished. In addition, you can see that a huge number of local historical dolmens have small protrusions of walls and roofs, due to which another additional extension is formed. Dolmens were built only from the densest limestones and sandstones around 1300-2400. BC.

Unfortunately, in modern times dolmens are often subjected to destruction and it is not natural elements that are to blame for this, but the unreasonableness of people who do not want to preserve these amazing structures in their pristine beauty. But despite this, stone dolmens continue to stand in their places.
