Description of the attraction

The bunker of the headquarters of the Azov military flotilla in Primorsko-Akhtarsk is a witness to the defense of the city during the Great Patriotic War.

A dugout-bunker, in which the command of the Azov military flotilla was located under the leadership of Rear Admiral S. G. Gorshkov, was located on Svobodnaya street. Here, in house number 55, the Rear Admiral himself lived, who later became the Commander-in-Chief of the USSR Navy and twice Hero of the Soviet Union.

In September 1941, the Hitlerite army launched an offensive from the Kakhovsky bridgehead. Since Mariupol, which at that time was the command post of the flotilla, was under the threat of capture, it was decided to move it to the village of Primorsko-Akhtarskaya. Here, in a special bunker, from October 1941 to August 1942 and from April 1943 to April 1944, the headquarters of the Azov military flotilla was located.

Today this famous dugout is in a rather neglected state. It is littered with logs and other debris. The underground part of the bunker is completely flooded with water. From time to time, at the initiative of the local council of veterans and the district administration, schoolchildren and students clean up the abandoned territory adjacent to the bunker. True, to put this historical place in order requires spending much more effort and money.

There is a hope that once this abandoned bunker of the headquarters of the Azov military flotilla will be included in the list of military-historical monuments of the Great Patriotic War in Primorsko-Akhtarsk, it will be restored and become one of the excursion places for residents and guests of the city.
