Description of the attraction

Museum of the headquarters of the cavalry brigade G. I. Kotovsky in Tiraspol is one of the main cultural attractions of this city. The military history museum is located in the building of the former hotel "Paris", where in the winter of 1920 the headquarters of the Kotovsky cavalry brigade was located, which participated in the liberation of the city from Denikin.

In June 1991, on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the birth of the famous brigade commander Grigory Ivanovich Kotovsky, the grand opening of the museum took place. The building of the museum is made in the neoclassical style widespread at that time and has a triangular shape. The main highlight of the museum building is the old cast cornice, towering over the main entrance.

G. I. Kotovsky is a bright and ambiguous personality. Before the October Revolution, he had already gained fame as "Bessarabian Robin Hood", during the civil war he became a major public figure, one of the initiators of the founding of Moldovan statehood on the left bank of the Dniester River.

The museum is especially popular among tourists for its rich collection of authentic household items, posters from the Civil War, the Maxim machine gun, Kotovtsi uniforms and, of course, the hologram of the Order of the Red Banner and the honorary revolutionary weapon of G. Kotovsky.

Since 2002, this military history museum has been considered a branch of the Tiraspol United Museum, which arose from the merger of several Tiraspol museums that existed in Soviet times (the history and local history museum, the house-museum of Academician Zelinsky, the headquarters of the Kotovsky cavalry brigade, the art gallery and the museum of history) in one structural institution.

In 2001-2011. the question of the expediency of preserving the headquarters museum in Tiraspol was considered. At the same time, the head of the Tiraspol state administration V. Kostyrko proposed to demolish the "dilapidated building". However, public and political figures advocated the preservation of this unique museum.

To the archive of the Kotovsky Museum Dear museum administration!

I would like to ask you to help me find the correspondence between my father Koval Philip Petrovich and your museum. At the request of the museum, he sent his memoirs about the service in the Kotovsky brigade during the civil war. I would like, if they are preserved in the museum, to receive a copy. Father to the mind …
