Description of the attraction
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Old Kosovo began its existence at the time of the first mention of the village of Kosovo, around 1424. In those days, church parishes were formed at the very foundation of the village or immediately upon the arrival of the settlers, very often - at their own request or at the request of the village headman - "viita". Once again, the existence of the church is indicated by an entry in the tax register, which indicates that in 1579 there was one priest in the village. There is also a note from 1739, which states: "on the soil that has long been consecrated at the expense and efforts of the Reverend Priest Vasily Nikurovich, the Kosovar dean and with the help of devout people", a new church building was built - "a cross in plan, with five elevating fashionably upward with domes, covered with shingles”.
In 1824, during a fire, the church burned down. Together with her, all metrics, books and certificates were destroyed in the fire. In 1836, on the site of the destroyed church, a new one-domed church was erected, which, in turn, was burned down during the Second World War.
In the nineties of the twentieth century, a stone one-story church was built. Not far from the church, a parish house has been preserved, which was visited by famous figures of Ukrainian culture (now there is a primary school building here).
