The A. Kasteev Museum of Arts is the largest art museum in the Republic of Kazakhstan, a world famous research, cultural and educational center in the field of art.

To date, the main fund of the State Museum of Art has over 23 thousand exhibits. The main part of the collection is represented by the fine and applied arts of Kazakhstan. The collection of works from Western Europe consists of genuine works by artists of the 16th-19th centuries. Germany, Italy, France, England, Flanders, Holland and Austria. The museum also displays a unique collection of fine art from Russia, Soviet times and the countries of the East. The real pride of the museum is the unique collection of Kazakh folk applied art.

The State Museum of Arts named after A. Kasteev was founded back in 1976 on the basis of the collections of the Kazakh State Art Gallery named after A. T. Shevchenko and the Republican Museum of Applied Arts. The museum was provided with its own building, built on the banks of the Esentai River. The authors of this project were architects O. Naumova, E. Kuznetsova, B. Novikov, as well as designers B. Tsigelman, Z. Sukhanova and M. Kasharsky. In 1984 the museum was named after the famous Kazakh artist - Abylkhan Kasteev.

The permanent exhibition of the Museum of Art contains the best exhibits from all collections. The Small Academy of Arts was opened at the museum. In addition, the A. Kasteev Museum of Art carries out a huge amount of work in different directions. The main ones are: acquisition of funds, research into the history of Kazakh and foreign fine arts, restoration of works of art and much more.

The museum constantly organizes temporary exhibitions from near and far abroad, holds international scientific conferences.
