Description of the attraction

Absheron National Park is one of the natural attractions of Azerbaijan. It is located on the territory of the Azizbek region. The park was created in 2005 on the basis of the Absheron State Wildlife Refuge. The main purpose of its foundation was the preservation of waterfowl, gazelles and Caspian seals inhabiting this territory.

At present, the system of natural protected areas of the republic consists of five national parks, thirteen state nature reserves, about twenty state reserves, the total area of which is about 593, 1 thousand hectares. As for the area of the Absheron National Park itself, it occupies 783 hectares, and a huge number of mammals and many waterfowl are found within its borders.

On the territory of the Absheron Park, one can meet gazelles, jackals, foxes, badgers, hares, and in the waters of the Caspian Sea - seals and fish. Among the birds inhabited here are the snorting swan, herring gull, black and gray red-headed ducks, sandpiper, marsh harrier and many other migratory birds. A unique bird in the national park is the Marsh Harrier. This bird prefers to hunt smaller birds and fish, as well as various amphibians, which is why the marsh harrier builds its nests in bog areas overgrown with reeds and reeds.

A lot of animals and birds inhabiting the land of the Absheron National Park were included in the Red Book of Azerbaijan.
