Historians claim that beer was brewed in Estonia as early as the 13th century. The first breweries were located at monasteries and their products were supplied to the table of the nobility and wealthy people. Large breweries began to open in the first half of the 19th century and today the products of the two largest of them are especially popular in Estonia:
- Tartu Brewery A. Le. Coq ranks second in the country in terms of the volume of produced foamy drinks. It was founded in 1826 and has repeatedly received prestigious awards at industrial exhibitions in Europe.
- The largest brewery in the republic is the Saku brewery in Harju County. It has existed since 1820 and its "repertoire" includes more than ten types of beer and Vichy Classique mineral water. In addition, Saku brewers make and bottle three excellent apple cider.
