Description of the attraction
Doi Inthanon National Park covers an area of 482 square kilometers and includes the highest mountain range in all of Thailand. Its main peak is Mount Doi Inthanon, the highest in the country, reaching 2565 meters above sea level. Thanks to this, the people called it “the roof of Thailand”.
Formerly known as Doi Angka, the mountain is named after the abbreviation of the king's name Inthawichayanon. Legend has it that the ruler's ashes were buried at the top of the mountain, and now his spirit is an integral companion of all guests of the park.
The national park is very popular among locals and tourists due to the climate atypical for Thailand. The average annual temperature at the summit is about 12 ° C. Despite the fact that there is never snow on Mount Doi Inthanon, the thermometer here drops to -8 ° C during the winter months. This is the coldest place in Thailand and the locals believe that having visited Doi Inthanon, they know what real winter is.
The most interesting places to visit in the Doi Inthanon National Park are: Mae Klang waterfall, which is a powerful stream of water flowing down granite slabs, containing many rapids; the limestone cave of Brichinda, which consists of two gigantic rooms, one of which has an opening that lets in the most beautiful streams of sunlight; Buddhist chedi (stupa) Napamaitanidol, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the king; the Gew Mae Pan Trail, which runs through evergreen rain forests, home to many of the country's vibrant and beautiful birds; one of the largest waterfalls in Thailand, Mae Ya, which is a powerful fall of water from a height of about 250 meters.
