Description of the attraction

The opening date of the Northern Fleet Air Force Museum is August 20, 1976. This year marked the 40th anniversary of the creation of the first aviation association of the Northern Fleet in the village of Safonovo (the old name is Gryaznaya Guba). The first seaplane airfield was located on the site of the museum.

Shortly before this anniversary, the political department of the air force of the Northern Fleet put forward an initiative to build such a museum. Aviators from Severomorsk personally took part in the construction of the NF Air Force Museum. Local residents, military and veteran aviators were also involved in the decoration.

The construction was carried out on a very tight schedule. In less than a year, a new building was built on the site of the old warehouse of the reconnaissance flight regiment. The warehouse building was partially rebuilt as a museum. Not without the help of sponsors, in particular - the Kama Automobile Plant. They took an active part in the project and provided building materials for the construction of the premises. The design of the building was entrusted to "Murmanggrazhdanproekt", in particular to its employees - L. L. Egorov and L. D. Popov.

The collection of the museum is located in three rooms. In the first room you can get acquainted with the exhibits of the wartime, in the second there are documentary evidence of the fallen aviators, in the third - all materials related to the post-war period. The museum also contains all the information about the history of the aviation of the Northern Fleet, which was formed in 1936. In addition, the museum contains personal belongings of pilots, veterans of the Northern Fleet. Among them are 53 pilots who were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Perhaps many will immediately remember the name of the legendary commander of the aviation regiment BF Safonov. He was awarded this title twice. Among our contemporaries, six naval aviators were awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation. Also in the halls of the museum are photographs, sculptures and paintings by famous authors - front-line photojournalist E. A.

The hangar of the museum stores airplanes and helicopters from the Second World War and the post-war period, produced in the USSR, Germany, Great Britain, and the USA. Many of them suffered during the hostilities, but were restored by the hands of the North Sea aviators. There are also other equipment, for example, vehicles for servicing aircraft and airfields, a radio-controlled target, a simulator cabin. Unfortunately, some types of aircraft were lost forever due to the collapse of the roof of the old hangar building. This happened at the end of the last century.

At the end of 2008, the museum was transformed, as a result of which it became a military history and exposition department at the Safonovsky House of Naval Aviation Officers of the Northern Fleet.

It is noteworthy that during the filming of "Torpedo Bombers" (a feature film, filmed at the Lenfilm studio in 1983), aviation equipment from the collection of this particular museum was used.

The first director of the NF Air Force Museum was Lyudmila Andreevna Sorokina. Since 1977, she worked as a tour guide in this museum, and then was appointed its leader. Being a historian by training, in this position she found a worthy application of her knowledge and worked as a director until 1985, before moving to Moscow. During this short period of time, she was able to turn the museum into a large complex as part of the Northern Fleet Aviation Museum, Yu. A. Gagarin, hangar, which housed a collection of military and post-war aviation equipment. In addition, we can say that the museum was the center of local history and military-patriotic work throughout the Murmansk region and on the territory of the Kola Peninsula. Today the museum is headed by Evgenia Dmitrievna Sobakar.

Several tens of thousands of visitors come to the museum every year.

Northern Fleet Aviation Museum We went to see friends for the Victory Day celebration on May 9 in Severomorsk. The plan drawn up by the family for the holiday included a visit to the Northern Fleet Aviation Museum. At the beginning, we thought there would be an ordinary dry story about the exhibits. But from the first step, we were pleasantly surprised by many interesting facts that …
