Description of the attraction

The National Zoo is the same age as independent Malaysia. It began its development in 1957 as a small zoo under the auspices of the Agro-Horticultural Association. And in 1963 it was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Malaysia. The land in the northeast of Kuala Lumpur, set aside for the zoo, coexisted with pristine rainforest. Hence its name "Jungle Zoo".

It impresses with the scale of its territory and the number of animals collected on it. There are about five thousand of them here, representing about five hundred species: mammals, reptiles, birds, fish and amphibians, whose composition is constantly replenished. The zoo adheres to world trends in keeping animals close to natural conditions. Almost 90 percent of the zoo's inhabitants live in the natural habitat of their wild relatives. Most of the pets are representatives of the rich fauna of Malaysia. Together with them, animals from other parts of the world are quite fully represented.

The park is divided into 18 sections, isolated from each other and given over to certain species of fauna. The most beautiful hornbills, the unofficial symbol of Malaysia, have a separate area. The other is inhabited by reptiles, the largest crocodile in the world lives here. In addition to it, turtles of several species, snakes and lizards live.

The country's oldest aquarium contains all species of fish found in Malaysian rivers and swamps, including rare species.

The primate zone always attracts and entertains visitors. Chimpanzees, gibbons, macaques, monkeys and other interesting monkeys feel great in their current home. Orangutans from the islands of Sumatra and Borneo also found their home, where nothing remained of their native rainforests.

Without a bird society, any zoo is not fully staffed. The National Zoo has the largest collection of birds in the country.

There is a separate area with nocturnal animals. There you can see flying foxes and huge bats hanging from the trees. And on the earth live a mouse deer and a black-backed tapir, who also prefer a nocturnal lifestyle.

The most interesting is the territory of African animals, called "Walk on the Savannah". White rhinos, giraffes, and zebras with antelopes live there - real Africa.

For younger guests of the zoo there is a separate "Children's World" with animals safe for children.
