Description of the attraction
The building of the State Bank, located in Kamenets-Podolsk, although it cannot compete in antiquity with older and eminent buildings, nevertheless, it is rightfully included among the sights of the city. Suffice it to mention the fact that this building is the first to be erected on the New Plan - the historical part of the city, which began to rapidly develop in the second half of the 19th century.
It was here, after the Old Town and the New Plan were connected by the bridge, simply called Novoplanovsky, and this building was built. The bank is located almost at the entrance to the bridge, which stretches between the high banks of the canyon of the Smotrych River. The city park, which is laid out nearby, gives the place a picturesque place.
In fact, the building of the State Bank consists of two buildings - the bank itself, as well as a house located just above, specially erected for the bank employees who lived in it (now the Scientific Library is located here). It took relatively little time to build both buildings - from 1896 to 1901. The bank building was based on the project prepared by the architect I. Kalashnikov and the provincial architect V. Kanakotna. The main building, made in an L-shaped form, in which the bank was located, is decorated with projections and rustication imitating masonry. The main entrance is decorated with a triangular pediment and columns, while the southwestern one is hidden under a covered terrace with a balustrade. Despite the fact that the building is no longer new, nevertheless, it is still used for its intended purpose, and there is no doubt about its reliability, since under the bank, right in the rock, cellars were cut down, whose depth exceeds ten meters.
